How do I abandon a shipment?
A complete guide on how to abandon the fulfillment of an order that you plan on fulfilling in the future.
The most common reason to do this is if a Sales Order comes in, is sent to the warehouse for fulfillment, but then the customer requests a change be made to the order (and it hasn't been shipped yet). This order needs to be re-submitted because an order that has been marked ReadyToShip will be locked for editing in ERP (and certain order edits cannot be made in WMS).
There are two ways to do this.
In WMS
First, go to Sales Order > View Orders in WMS. Using the search parameters, locate the order you need to edit.
Click the order ID. Click Modify.
Under Please select a reason, select Re-submit. Click Yes.
Note: the intention of this status is that the order will be fulfilled eventually. This will not cancel or otherwise delete the order.
As you can see, the order itself is not being abandoned but the fulfillment process (temporarily) is.
Looking at the S/O in ERP, you can see that the status has reverted back to Pending.
In edit mode, make whatever edits you need to make and click Save.
Next, change the status to ReadyToShip again and click Save.
Click Yes.
Back in WMS, searching by that S/O, you will now see two shipments: one Pending, and one Abandoned. The abandoned one represents the initial fulfillment attempt and can be largely ignored going forward. From this point on, you will be fulfilling the shipment in Pending status.
