How do I create a new SKU for a 3PL customer?

Here's how to use the bulk or individual product entry tools to create new SKUs specifically designated for a 3PL client, including assigning ownership and access.

When you're managing inventory on behalf of 3PL clients, you'll need to create SKUs that are designated specifically for them. These products will only appear in your internal system and in that client’s 3PL Portal. There are a few different ways to create these products, depending on your preference and volume.

You can: create 3PL product in bulk or one at a time.

Note: All 3PL products must be set to Product Type: 3PL Product and must include the correct Customer Number to ensure they are assigned correctly. The guide below will instruct you on how to do this.


Option 1: Create 3PL product in bulk

Use this method when you're adding multiple SKUs at once.

  • Go to Inventory > Bulk Entry Product.

  • Toggle Add To Customer SKU to ON.

  • In the entry grid or by pasting from Excel, fill out all required product fields.

  • Here are the required fields for 3PL:

    • Inventory Type: 3PL Product

    • Customer #
      • In the Customer Number column, enter the customer code of the 3PL client you’re assigning this product to.

Tip: You'll have to scroll about 2/3 of the way to the right to find Inventory Type and nearly all the way to the right to find Customer #.

Note: There is a column for the field Customer SKU. Please use this if the Customer SKU is different from the SKU you will be using. If you leave this field blank, the Customer SKU will automatically populate with the value from the SKU field.

  • Click Save.

  • Click Yes.

You'll be given the option to view your new SKUs on the Inventory List screen. Press Yes if you want, but there are no further steps in this specific instruction set that would require that.

Option 2: Create a single 3PL product manually

Use this method for creating one SKU at a time.

  • Go to Inventory Management > Product Management.

  • Click Add.

  • Click Yes.

You will remain on this new SKU's Product Management page, but in Edit mode this time.

  • Go to Action > Customer SKU.

You may get the below error, but don't worry - you are about to add the data.

  • Enter the Customer # for the customer who owns this SKU.

  • Enter the SKU and the Customer SKU.
    • The SKU is what you will be using, the Customer SKU (if different from the SKU) is how the customer identifies the item. They do not need to be different values, but both must be filled out.
  • Click Save.

  •  Click Yes.

You will get a notification that this was successful.


What happens next?

Once saved, these products will be visible to the client in the 3PL Client Portal, where they can create purchase or sales orders, track inventory, and manage product details as needed.
