Here is a guide on how to add categories for your product material values based on the components that make up your items.
If you have products that are made up of various components each carrying unique value, and if you use those values to adjust your costs, it's important that you use the Product Material Value tool.
Create Product Material Value Codes
The first thing you will need to do will be to input the Product Material Value Code(s) you will need. Go to Admin Tools > System Settings > System Code Entry.
Scroll down under Code Name until you reach Product Material Code. Click on it. In this scenario, the user is a jeweler and uses these codes to help determine cost changes down the road. Enter your first code, then click Add Line until you have all that you need. Click Save.
Click Yes.
Note: Best practice here (and any time you add or change system codes) would be to log out and log back in. This will ensure that your new or adjusted code will be useable.
Next, you will need to assign value to those categories within the product itself.
