What is the Restock column in Return Reason Settings?

Here’s an explanation of how the Restock field affects product returns and inventory adjustment in DigitBridge.

What is the Restock column?

In Return Reason Settings (found under Admin Tools → System Settings), the Restock column allows you to define a default quantity to restock when a specific return reason is selected.

This field helps streamline return processing by auto-filling the quantity to be returned to inventory, based on your expectations for that type of return.

How it works:

  • When a return is initiated and a return reason is selected, the Restock value you’ve defined for that reason is automatically entered into the restock quantity field in the return workflow.

  • The user can override or adjust this value as needed, but the system will always default to whatever you’ve configured in Return Reason Settings.

  • This field only accepts whole numbers—no decimals or negative values.

Why this matters:

Using the Restock field ensures that:

  • Resalable items (e.g., unopened returns, duplicates) are returned to inventory by default

  • Items that are damaged or defective are not restocked, reducing the risk of reselling faulty goods

  • Teams can process returns faster, with fewer manual steps

Example Workflow:

Let’s say you create a return reason called “Changed Mind”, and you set the Restock field to 1.

Later, a warehouse team member uses this reason during a product return. When they select it, the restock quantity auto-fills to 1—meaning the product will go back into sellable inventory unless they choose otherwise.

This is especially helpful for common, low-risk returns, such as duplicates or unopened items.

Best Practices:

  • Use 0 for reasons like DEFECTIVE or DAMAGED

  • Use 1 for reasons like CHANGED MIND or WRONG ITEM

  • Regularly review and update your return reason settings to match your actual operational policies
